As long as astrologers continue appealing to science for justification of their beliefs, they will be cannon fodder for the skeptics and critics.
I have to say that the current state of physics and cosmology are far too inadequate to deal with anything beyond sense data, or the information delivered to the mind through the physical senses. The exception is theoretical physics, but then it's still theory, although the math can lead to some interesting concepts.
The good skeptic is probably an atheist or agnostic at best, and is proud to be called an empiricist or materialist. One of their favorite philosophers is John Locke who held that "the mind is an empty tablet upon which experience writes." The mind is a product of the brain, and necessary for the organism to grope through its brief existence, procreate, and then turn to dust. If this is the ultimate truth, then the skeptics are right, astrology is a sham and a joke.
Fortunately, for most of us, we believe what science can't study, that is, the mental universe. Astrology is not a subject that can be confirmed through the physical senses; its realm is ethereal, metaphysical, divine. It transcends the physical, and can only be known from the inside out. The spiritual worlds are astrological worlds; astrology deals with the Soul and its various states, what we call Karma. Reincarnation is a fundamental idea to many astrologers, and assures a continuity of consciousness through many planes of existence, not of this world alone, but many worlds. It can be known, and experienced; students of the ascended masters do it everyday, and the proof is in the doing.
I believe science has discovered this vast spiritual realm, but doesn't know how to go about studying it, although several experiments are in the works. It came with the discovery that galaxies would fly apart were it not for some unseen, unknown matter holding it together. They've come to the astounding conclusion that this matter makes up ninety percent of the mass of the universe. I call it the ether, the fifth element, along with earth, air, fire, and water. It's most likely the mental substance in varying densities throughout the universe. It has been named Cold Dark Matter, and its exact properties have not been determined--yet. I have written about this at my web site, you can access it at the address: http://www.soultrek.com/cdm.html.
It is time to let go the bonds of the physical world; it's actually an illusion in a much more real universe. Those that scoff close the door to dimensions of beauty and grandeur that go far beyond the senses of the body. There is a higher truth, a divine and sublime truth that can break the shackles of grim ignorance and haughty pride. The path awaits, and is open to all.
